Education floor

60+ college semester hours An associate degree or higher in a health care or business-related field, from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, is required (12 AAC 46.010). This was lowered from a baccalaureate-degree floor by an amendment effective April 2025 (Register 254), making Alaska's education floor notably lower than most states. Administrator-in-Training hours

480 to 1,000 hours depending on your degree or experience

• 1,000 hours: Administrator-in-Training program per the NAB National Administrator Residency/AIT Program Manual (2021 Edition): at least 1,000 hours under an approved preceptor, completed within 2 years of proposal submission (12 AAC 46.041, amended April 2025 from a prior 6-month/1997-manual standard).
• 480 hours: Alternative to the formal AIT program: 12 months of supervised health care facility management experience, need not be consecutive, at least 40 hours per month (480 hours total) (12 AAC 46.010(b)). An active NAB Health Care Services Executive credential also qualifies in place of either pathway.
